Treize au Jardin

Updated: Mar 13, 2023

Bienvenue Y’all: a phrase I had never heard or ever dreamed of putting together.

My initial encounter with Treize dates back to 2017, my very first trip to Paris. My mom, sister, and I stayed in a studio in the 6th. Everything was so sparkly and unfamiliar. The trip had been spur of the moment, so we had no idea what to eat, drink, or do. A quick Google search landed us at Treize, A Baker’s Dozen.

Upon entry, you could’ve sworn you stepped into an antique store. There was not a blank space in the place. Potted plants and knickknacks dressed every table and shelf, the walls themselves were hidden by hanging pans, chalkboard signs, and a mismatched collection of paintings. It was cozy, practically showering guests with personality.

We were greeted with a “bienvenue y’all,” a phrase I had never heard or ever dreamed of putting together. The smiley American waitress handed us the menus to look over, and after a few glances, I nearly erupted in (happy) tears. Unlike pretty much every other restaurant in Europe, they served iced coffee.

After that fact won me over, Treize has given a million reasons to return time and time again. Treize, A Baker’s Dozen has now relocated and transformed into Treize au Jardin, located just steps away from the famous Luxembourg gardens. Despite the bigger space, they maintain the same homey feel, and have become the spot for tourists and Parisians alike.

Treize is unique in its preparation of breakfast foods you’d find in the American South - think buttermilk biscuits with spiced honey, chicken and waffles, or a traditional big breakfast plate. However, they mix it up with a hint of french flare. In addition, Treize is committed to making everything completely homemade and bio, with lots of options for their vegan/vegetarian friends.

Treize has become a sort of home away from home for many American expats.

The restaurant hosts a traditional Thanksgiving dinner each year, with a menu that would make your grandma proud. Additionally, they set up booths for voter registration and drop-offs for absentee voters, encouraging the community abroad to remain politically active.

Treize’s whole ambiance - the familiar foods, the homey atmosphere, and the cheerful employees - wraps all of its visitors up in the warmest hug.
